This is a place where I can vent about certain frustrations. And occasionally, there may be a happy story. B/c life IS good.

Our Day at the Shore

So, the trip down the shore last weekend was fun. This was our first time with listings and a fist full of keys, and I didn't quite remember my way around the town. I hadn't been there in a few years. So, at the first place we go to, on the third floor of the building, with no elevator, we couldn't get in, b/c the key didn't work. Well, we went down to the street, looked across it, and realised we were at the wrong building. They have the same address number, but different street names. So, we eventually went back. But we went up and down so many stairs, I was starting to get shaky legs! It didn't help that I was ready for lunch.

We were told by the realtor that the owners were most likely NOT in the units, but just in case they were, we should give a little knock before we let ourselves in. Well, at the one place, as Dan was getting ready to go inside, he noticed a Gatorade and a jacket in the kitchen. Nobody answered when we knocked, so I told him to open the door. As we were walking in, we saw that the bathroom light was on, and then Dan turned around and whispered to me that he saw a purse, and for us to get out. I didn't know if he had said 'purse' or 'person,' but we just got out of there really fast. It was silly, too, b/c the owners want to make money, and the way most people rent a place is by seeing it first, so they shouldn't have minded that we were there, but we felt weird, so we left.

I was trying to keep all of the listing straight, but I shouldn't have been in charge of this, b/c I was forgetting where we had gone, and why we didn't like the unit, blah blah blah. I started making notes after a couple of places, and that helped. But it was like we were a couple of idiots! We finally went to this one unit, in a building we had already gone to, and right away we knew this was the one. The buildings between us and the beach only blocked the view of the beach slightly. And it was just a nice set up, in a quiet corner of the building. Really bright. Of course, I should have seen the listing in the first place, since it was the first building we had gone to! We then noticed that there was one more unit available in this building, one floor below, and one unit over, which may have given us an even better view of the beach. We went down there just in case, but the deadbolt was locked, and we didn't have that key! So, there I am, trying to peer through the tiny hole in the blinds on the door, and could only see a tiny bit of the furniture, which didn't look as nice as the other place. So, we asked the realtor back at the office if she could show us the online pictures. The listing had said it had two bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed, and one with two twins. Well, the pictures online only showed two rooms with two twins. How silly! It also was not a non-smoking unit, which I wouldn't enjoy. So, we got the right unit, I think.

All in all it was a productive day. Dan likes the area, which is good. We'll have plenty of things to do and places to go. And I just found out that my friends will be a couple of miles down the road the same time we're there, so that will be nice! Can't wait for June!
